Samuel Lawrence Lopez Concepcion, widely known as Sam Concepcion,15, is the new Department of Education’s (DepEd) Youth Role Model and Spokesperson. The multimedia teen star is chosen for maintaining his wholesome public image while recognizing the value of education.

Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus chooses Sam as an inspiration to all young Filipinos. “We need somebody like Sam to remind the youth that education can be enjoyable and can bring us close to our dreams,” he said.

As a spokeperson, Sam will lead education campaigns and advocate various educational campaigns, encourage participation in wholesome, healthy and productive co-curricular concerns through the SAMa SAMa sa Eskwela project and other school related activities. “This is a big responsibility but I will do my share and give it my best shot,” Sam said.

DepEd’s previous spokepersons include Rico Ryan, Shaira Luna, Onemig Bondoc and Dingdong Dantes.

Young singing heartthrob Sam Concepcion, who is cited recently as the Department of Education’s (Dep Ed) newest spokesperson, embarks on a nationwide campus tour dubbed “SAMa, SAMa sa Eskwela with SAM Concepcion.” Sam is set to visit 50 schools to promote Dep Ed’s current programs that aim to instill in the youth love of self, family and country; moral and spiritual regeneration; and empowerment through education.

Sam’s campus tour kicks off at Santolan High School and Ramon Magsaysay Cubao campus on December 5; Roxas High School and Makati High School on December 7; and Caloocan High School and Malabon National High School on December 10. The rest of the tour will resume in January 2008.

Sam will perform songs from his self-titled debut album, which includes hits “Even If” and “Happy,” in his school visits.

Having joined many government campaigns like “Go Negosyo,” and “Anti-Smoking Campaign of the World Health Organization, Dep Ed National Director Joey Pelaez is amazed at Sam’s drawing power among the youth. “It’s like Rico Yan fever all over again. Everywhere we go from Cagayan de Oro to Cebu, Davao and Pampanga, Sam has never failed to draw massive crowds. The response to this young man has been overwhelming. In fact, assurance of tight security is top priority everywhere he goes, says Joey. “Sam is an effective spokesperson having led countless oath takings encouraging the youth to be morally upright, say no to drugs, and commit to stay in school. We are proud to have him do this for the government,” Joey adds. (more…)
